On Saturday 28 January 2023, thirteen of our St. Monica’s elite athletes, travelled in the early hours of the
morning to Pietermaritzburg for the KZNA Track and Field League 1 at Msunduzi Athletic Stadium. They were
accompanied by Miss La Marque and our Mr Ndiko. They arrived safely and did very well under the scorching
heat and humidity achieving over 10 podium finishes, including three excellent 1 st place finishes by Lathitha
Nkunzi, Samkelisiwe Ngema and Boitumelo Ramaota, in their respective events. We also achieved four 2 nd
place finishes which included great performances by our reigning Sportsman of the year Eyona Mangumta in
Shot-Put and our School Head boy Malusi Sipika in Long-Jump.
St. Monica’s would to thank God for blessing us with safe travels and no injuries on the day. We also send our
sincerest gratitude to Office National and One Price for their tremendous support of our athletes, without
their support, this would not have been possible. We also wish to thank the athletes’ parents and guardians
for allowing their children to participate in these sports outings over and above their academic commitments,
it truly bodes well for a healthy and balanced lifestyle for the learners. And finally, we would like to thank our
beloved Principal, Mrs Myburg and our honourable Deputy Principal for the College phase Mr de Kock, for
postponing the Prefects and RCL Camp in order to give our athletes in leadership positions, an opportunity to
participate in this athletic event. May the Lord our God bless you all.
Mr Ndiko
