Ash Wednesday 2022

ASH WEDNESDAY MASS

On Wednesday, 02 March, St Monica’s Diocesan School learners and staff gathered in the hall for the Ash Wednesday mass. The altar servers led the procession as the congregation sang. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. During the 40 days of Lent we prepare for Easter by taking time to be quiet in our hearts, by praying, by doing good deeds, by being forgiving and asking for forgiveness. Fr David Lloyd-Jones opened the service inaugurating the 40 day period in preparation for Easter. Ashes were administered on the learners and staff foreheads to remind us that we need to try to be more like Jesus. The ashes are a sign of mourning and repentance. Fr David reminded the congregation that Lent is a time to focus on reconciliation and to forgive those that have wronged you as Jesus forgave in Luke 23: 34: Then Jesus said, ”Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots.
